IDENTITY CLASSIFICATION
There are five main identity categories. Everyone will fall into one of these categories.
These five categories are:
- THE WINNER
- THE SURVIVOR
- THE VICTIM
- THE LOSER
- THE OBSERVER
THE WINNER
This is the category that we all would like to be in. This is the person who is always in the right place at the right time and it appears that life goes right for him. He enjoys a huge measure of success.
Main Characteristic of the Winner:
- Looks to the future.
- Does not dwell on the past.
- Is able to view from either a macrocosmic or a microcosmic perspective.
- Is capable of, and willing to, delegate authority.
- Enjoys life.
- Appreciates others.
- Takes responsibility for his actions.
- Is very secure.
- Money is not a problem. If it is lost, it is easily recovered.
Most successful people are in the winner category
THE SURVIVOR
This is one who has the potential to be a winner or to be a victim. It all depends on whether or not he becomes the effect of his own actions. He can be in the right place at the right time or he can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It just depends on whether he is headed in the winner direction or the victim direction based on how much responsibility he is willing to take for his actions.
Main Characteristics of the Survivor
- Has a future but operates mainly in present time.
- Usually does not dwell on the past.
- Unconsciously creates problems that he solves just in the nick of time.
- Views life more from a microcosmic perspective.
- Is reluctant to delegate authority.
- Desires appreciation and approval from others.
- Takes responsibility for his actions most of the time.
- Does not feel secure much of the time
- Money is important and is usually the main goal of the Survivor.
This is a person who strives to be successful and succeeds once in a while.
THE VICTIM
This is one who has the potential to be a survivor or a loser.
Life is a series of unsolveable problems. The way the victim survives is his tendency to make others wrong so he can be right. He has problems the same as the survivor but whether he becomes a survivor or loser depends on how he handles his problems and how willing he is to take responsibility for his actions. The reason why the Victim has the need to make others wrong so he or she can be right is due to the victim's harmful acts, withholds and copings that have been performed in the past. The victim is an angry person. The anger is at self for doing the harmful acts, having withholds and/or having to do acts of coping. However, the victim cannot accept responsibility for the past acts and has covered them over with misdirected anger. Whenever one is confronted with a victim identity, one can easily spot the past harmful acts, withholds or copings by merely noting that which the victim is moaning, groaning, whining, complaining about or criticizing. These are the very things that has cause the person to become a victim. The only way a Victim Identity can stop being a victim is to be able to take responsibility for the misdeeds, etc. that he or she has committed in the past and recognizing that the anger being expressed at another is actually anger at self that is being projected onto another who has done something that has restimulated the misdeeds in the victim's psyche.
Main Characteristics of the Victim:
- Operates mainly in the past.
- Has no future.
- Views life only from a microcosmic perspective.
- Does not take responsibility for his actions.
- Assigns cause to outside forces.
- Always has problems that he is the effect of.
- Makes others wrong so he can be right.
- Generally feels wrong but won't admit this to himself or others.
- Does not feel secure.
- Money is important but it is expected to be given rather than earned. The victim is one who likes to sue others.
This person is never successful.
THE LOSER
This is one who is at the bottom. He has become the effect of it all. He always has unsolveable problems. He wants others to pity or feel sorry for him and seeks sympathy.
Characteristics of the Loser:
- Has no future and no present.
- Always operates in the past.
- Views life only from a microcosmic perspective.
- Considers others to be the cause of his problems.
- Cannot take responsibility for his actions.
- Feels others should be responsible for his existence.
- Assigns cause to outside forces.
- Is very insecure.
- Expects others to help him.
- Wants pity or sympathy from others.
- Money is important but has no reality. It is rarely earned but is expected to be given freely by others who are charitable to those who are less fortunate.
This person is definitely never successful.
THE OBSERVER
This is a person who generally is not playing "the game" but rather observes what others are doing. The Observer is a mixture of survivor and victim.
Characteristics of the Observer:
- Operates mainly in present time.
- Can have a future.
- Usually is either a survivor or a victim.
- Views life from both a microcosmic and macrocosmic perspective.
- Can take responsibility for his actions.
- Not very active in life but mainly observes the actions of others.
- Is usually dependent on others for his survival.
- Normally is not affected by problems because he considers them as creations by others.
- Money is important but is not a goal. It is not gained by lawsuits or charity. It usually is provided by others since the observer usually is a dependent type.
The Observer is not successful unless he makes an effort in that direction. Usually he doesn't do much of anything so he is not a winner, survivor, victim or a loser.
